A Haylock again won the Maine Women’s Amateur Golf Championship but this time it was Jade, the younger sister of two-time winner Ruby Haylock (2020, 2022).
Jade Haylock, who will be a senior at Leavitt High School in Turner this fall, had built a six-shot lead on Tuesday with the best round of the tournament, a one-under-par 71, and she was never threatened on Wednesday.
Jade shot a final round five-over-par 77 to post a nine-over-par 225 over the three days at the Biddeford-Saco Country Club. She had also carded a 77 on Monday before making her dramatic charge to the top of the leaderboard with Tuesday’s 71.
Ruby Haylock finished three shots back with a 12-over-par 79-75-74-228 but she actually trailed by six shots entering the final hole and posted an eagle-three while her sister bogeyed the hole.
Ruby Haylock, who plays out of the Turner Highlands Country Club along with her sister, was one of two golfers tied for second, six shots back, entering Wednesday’s final round along with Abby Flanagan from the Springbrook Golf Course in Leeds.
Jade Haylock expanded her lead to eight shots through the first 11 holes as she shot one-over-par while her sister played them in three-over-par.
Flanagan played the first 11 holes in six-over par.
Jade Haylock carded a double bogey, four bogeys and a birdie on the hot day.
She has won three straight state Class B schoolgirl individual titles.
Ruby Haylock had a pair of double bogeys to go with one bogey, her eagle on the last hole and a birdie. Her 74 was the best round of the day.
Ruby will be a junior at Bates College in Lewiston in the fall.
Flanagan carded an 80 to go with her 82 and 72 for an 18-over-par 234. That left her in a third place tie with defending champ Erin Holmes (81-75-78) from the Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland Center.
Thea Davis from the Hermon Meadow Golf Club shot the day’s second-lowest round, a three-over-par 75, and that enabled her to finish fifth with a 19-over-par 235 (81-79-75).
Rounding out the top 10 were Ruth Colucci (79-80-79-238) from the host Biddeford-Saco Country Club; Ruth Weeks (85-76-80-241) from the Portland Country Club, Elizabeth Holden (81-78-83-242) from the Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, Maria Cianchette (78-82-83-243) from the Woodlands Club in Falmouth and fellow Woodlands Club member Carley Iannetta (85-76-83-244).
Eighty-nine golfers teed off on Monday and 45 survived the cut after two days.
