Why should any of us be surprised that someone took a shot at Donald Trump? Is he any different than any of the nearly half a million men, women, and children killed by guns since Newtown? And now, to make matters worse, Republicans, the party of the National Rifle Association, the party of Second Amendment, are blaming Democrats for this shooting.
First, President Barack Obama, and now President Joe Biden, have done a lot to try to end gun violence, but they hit the Republican wall, blocking sensible legislation. Donald Trump himself has assured the NRA of his unwavering support. Well, now with what just happened, he got a front row seat. He’s not bulletproof! Nobody in this country is safe.
Right here, in our own state, I think Republicans are the party of excuses and denial, with what happened in Lewiston. We have a gun problem in this country. They use this never-ending Second Amendment excuse, but I think it’s really about keeping their jobs. There is no one from either party objecting to gun ownership, but when all you are doing is looking into background checks, you are essentially doing nothing. It seems that the kid who took the shot at Trump could have bought a gun anywhere. Ridding us of assault weapons, and gun shows would be a good start.
How many deaths will it take until we know that too many people have died?
