More closures are coming to Broadway in Bangor over the next week.
The on- and offramps for the southbound side of Interstate 95 at Broadway closed Wednesday night to early Thursday morning for striping, according to the city of Bangor.
That also closed a lane of traffic on I-95.
Additional closures will happen for those same ramps from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through next Friday to allow for milling and paving, the city said.
Those are the latest closures to accommodate ongoing interstate bridge work over I-95. That required closure of Broadway over several nights in June.
It’s the latest step toward the eventual replacement of the aging bridge carrying I-95 traffic over Broadway. The 152-foot steel girder bridge, built in 1960, is crossed about 50,000 times daily and is in “poor condition,” transportation officials have told the Bangor Daily News.
In recent years other I-95 bridges in Bangor have been replaced, including the Ohio Street bridge in 2020 and the Union Street bridge in 2016.
