After eight years in the Legislature, I think I can recognize the necessary talent and drive to make a good legislator. It takes someone who will learn how to write a good bill and know how to bring that bill all the way to the governor’s desk. To write a good bill, you have to know the needs of your constituents and the needs of the state of Maine. I think that person is Mike Ray.
I first met Mike at the Waldo County Woodshed, volunteering to help Maine people heat their homes by cutting and splitting wood to go in their stoves. We spent some cold days doing that. Then, when he knew I was going to be termed out as his state representative (Appleton, Islesboro, Liberty, Lincolnville, Montville, Morrill and Searsmont), he came to Augusta to sit through long committee meetings. He did this because, as a selectperson for his town and a member of the Maine Municipal Association, he wanted to know how what we did in Augusta affected the health and income of the people back home.
That preparation shows Ray will be ready when the voters of District 40 send him to Augusta. Mike Ray is honest, hardworking and bright. You can’t do better than him as your state representative.
