The Supreme Court has undermined the very premise upon which our nation was founded. How ironic that it happened during the week in which we celebrated our declaration of independence from rule by a monarch who was above the law. The settled tradition that we are a nation of laws by which we all must live has been destroyed. Why did the Supreme Court think it necessary to make this decision?
Not a single president before Donald Trump has ever been indicted for a crime; even Richard Nixon knew that he wasn’t above the law when he accepted a pardon from President Gerald Ford. Now presidents are apparently no longer bound by laws, thus making them accountable to no one. That is what we fought to escape from almost 250 years ago.
Of all the horrible decisions this Supreme Court has made I think this is the most appalling. I believe that no one in that six member majority can say with a straight face that they are protecting the Constitution or that they are an originalist.
