Live harness racing will return to the Bangor State Fair this year.
That comes as organizers hope to “restore it to its former glory” after the fair saw declining attendance and scaled-back offerings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s been more than 30 years since the Bangor State Fair has offered live harness racing, with a post time of 5 p.m. Thursday.
“We are thrilled to be able to feature live harness racing at the historic Bangor State Fair once again,” Hollywood Casino General Manager Austin Muchemore said. “The Bangor State Fair is celebrating 175 years of history, and harness racing is part of that history. Both the fair and harness racing not only add to the fabric of Bangor’s rich history, but they are part of what makes living in this city unique.”
This year marks the 175th edition of the Bangor State Fair, which is among the oldest state fairs in the nation.
The fair will run Thursday, July 25, to Sunday, July 28, and from Thursday, Aug. 1, to Sunday, Aug. 3. The midway will be open 1 to 11 p.m.
This year’s fair also will feature games, agricultural shows and displays, live entertainment and a dozen food trucks, among other events.
“Every year, people look forward to the magic and nostalgia of the fair, and we are so happy we can be part of it,” Muchemore said.
