A former music teacher at Hancock Grammar School pleaded guilty on Monday to assault and disorderly conduct as part of a plea deal in which a charge of unlawful sexual touching was dropped, the Ellsworth American reported.
The case stemmed from an incident during a trip to Funtown Splashtown USA, an amusement park and waterpark in Saco, in June 2022, during which the teacher, Seth Briggs, 37, of Glenburn, allegedly rubbed a student’s legs, according to testimony cited by the American.
The victim, then 14, was a music student of Briggs’. Her court testimony is quoted extensively in the Ellsworth American’s reporting.
The parties agreed to deferred disposition, which allows that if Briggs follows the conditions of his release for a year, the state will dismiss the assault charge. The disorderly conduct, which carries a fine of $200, will remain on his record, according to testimony, cited by the American.
