A 21-year-old man is recovering at a hospital after nearly drowning at Range Pond State Park on Saturday.
The man, who has not been identified, had been swimming with friends when he became tired and attempted to swim back to shore, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office. He went under water on the trip back to shore, and was found by his friends and pulled back to land.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene around 2:10 p.m., and found that the man’s friends had been attempting life-saving measures.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he was admitted and remains in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon. The man’s identify is not being released at this time.
