OXFORD, Maine — A plane crashed at the Oxford Airport on Saturday after it had taken off from the same airport shortly before.
Only one person, the pilot, was aboard the plane before the crash at 103 Airport Road. He was sent to the hospital with lower back pain, according to Oxford Police Chief Rickie Jack.
“He was lucky to get it back this far,” Jack said. “He did a tremendous job of getting the plane back down on the ground.”
The pilot reportedly said that the plane had been undergoing repairs; he took it up from Oxford Airport to test it out. He’d been in the air for about an hour and a half, when the engine stopped.
The outer fence of the airport was damaged when the plane came down.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
