The Deer Isle Causeway was closed Friday afternoon after power lines fell on the roadway.
Posting to Facebook at about 1:30 p.m., the Deer Isle Fire Department anticipated the road would be closed “for at least a couple of hours.”
A Versant spokesperson told the Bangor Daily News the cause of the downed lines was “bird contact,” possibly related to an osprey nest, but was not immediately able to provide more information.
The Stonington Fire Department in a Facebook post said Versant reopened one lane to traffic at 2:40 p.m. The department posted a photo of the downed lines and what appeared to smoke and fire atop one of the utility poles.
The causeway connects Deer Isle to Little Deer Isle, providing a link in the only driving route from Deer Isle to the mainland.
