A Maine woman who says she and her child were among the people injured when a monster truck took down utility poles at the Topsham Fairgrounds earlier this summer has filed a lawsuit.
A Fryeburg woman, who was injured in the incident along with her son, has sued the Renegade Monster Truck Tour owners, the driver of the monster truck Crushstation, and the owner of the Topsham Fairgrounds, according to the Portland Press Herald.
On June 2, a monster truck, driven by a Jefferson man, went off a jump and hit power lines that crossed the track, taking down four utility poles and a transformer, which injured at least eight onlookers.
Police said the driver told them he could not see the power lines overhead from his seat in the monster truck.
The Topsham Police Department is not planning on filing charges.
According to the Press Herald, the lawsuit alleges Renegade Monster Truck Tour failed to adequately warn attendees of dangers associated with the tour and allowed employees to operate the monster truck negligently.
The lawsuit also alleges the Sagadahoc Agricultural and Horticultural Society failed to take adequate steps to oversee the safe operation and use of the Topsham Fairgrounds, according to the Press Herald.
No court date has been set. It’s not clear how much money the lawsuit is seeking.
