A Portland business owner has been charged with murder in connection with a deadly shooting near Morrill’s Corner.
The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m., July 30, on Forest Avenue in the parking lot of a mechanic shop.
Four people were shot. One of the victims, 54-year-old Susan McHugh of Gray, died and three others were injured.
A 45-year-old New Hampshire man, a 48-year-old adult Yarmouth man, and a 51-year-old Gray man were all treated and have been released from medical care.
Police executed a search warrant at a tattoo parlor in Morrill’s Corner last on Aug. 1 and another at a home in gray on Aug. 2.
On Thursday, police issued a warrant for the arrest of 47-year-old Aaron Karp of Naples for McHugh’s murder.
Karp turned himself in at the Portland police on Thursday evening after learning of the arrest warrant.
According to business records obtained by the CBS 13 I-Team, Karp is the president and owner of Almost Famous Tattoo, Inc.
Almost Famous is located across the street from where the shooting occurred.
Karp made his initial court appearance Friday afternoon and is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail without bail.
“From what I can say about the investigation we certainly are looking forward to having a trial and getting our day in court,” Karp’s attorney Verne Paradie told CBS 13 outside court. “Just to be clear, Mr. Karp did not run, he was not wanted or have any warrant for him until yesterday when he voluntarily turned himself into the police.”
Since the shooting happened last week, Portland police have refused to release basic details about the case citing an ongoing investigation. So far, no other arrests have been made.
No further details on the case are being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 207-874-8575.
