The massive windmill blade that was overturned after the tractor-trailer hauling it struck a bridge in Route 1 in Stockton Springs was brought back to Searsport Saturday morning, according to Maine State Police.
The initial crash occurred at about 5:30 a.m. Friday and the resulting road closures caused issues for commuters and businesses in the area. The blade, which was mounted on large brackets, hit the trestle of the bridge and caused the truck and trailer to turn over in the roadway, according to Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Crews worked overnight to load the blade onto another trailer and it was removed from the road at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday. It arrived in Searsport by 7 a.m. without issue. Route 1 has been reopened to all traffic.
