PORTLAND – Since opening its doors in 1866, Norway Savings Bank has been inspired by its mission to be good neighbors and took advantage of a special occasion on Forest Avenue to do just that in late July.
The NSB Forest Avenue branch, located on 446 Forest Avenue in Portland, celebrated its 10th anniversary during the week of July 22 with an “Under the Sea” theme and games, giveaways, and refreshments to thank customers for their loyalty. As part of the commemoration, NSB also gave back to the wider community.
“We invited our customers and community members to go online or come into the branch and vote for local non-profit organizations selected by our team to determine how $2,024 in donations would be split,” said Kyle Hodgkins, market manager and retail lender VP for NSB in Portland. “The four non-profit organizations that will receive financial donations from the branch are The Root Cellar, Ruth’s Reusable Resources, Maine Children’s Cancer Program, and Portland Wheelers.”
The Root Cellar engages volunteers and neighbors in Portland and Lewiston to cultivate social, economic, and spiritual wholeness. Ruth’s Reusable Resources is dedicated to providing every Maine child with the variety and quality of supplies needed to succeed in school. Maine Children’s Cancer Program is the pediatric cancer program of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital that provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment resources and services for children and their families. Portland Wheelers offers experiences for those unable to ride a bike by themselves to get people outdoors for therapeutic recreation, socialization, and adventure.
“As always, NSB is thankful for the many wonderful nonprofits in the area and are thankful to be able to support many of them over the course of the year, including the four anniversary recipients,” said Dan Walsh, president and CEO of NSB. “We believe in making a positive, lasting difference in our communities, and giving back is always the most fulfilling part of branch anniversary celebrations.”
In the coming months, NSB will also celebrate branch anniversaries in Bridgton (55th), Yarmouth (15th), and Gray (10th). In June, NSB celebrated the 40th anniversary of its South Paris branch.
