A woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after police say she fell asleep behind the wheel of a box truck and crashed into a wooded highway median.
Dispatchers received reports at about 3 p.m. of an Eastern Mold Remediation box truck on Interstate 95 northbound driving erratically near mile 112, according to Maine State Police commander Lt. Aaron M. Turcotte.
Moments later, as troopers were on their way to stop the truck, reports came in that it had crashed into the median near mile 118 Sidney. The truck had erred off the road, struck a tree and overturned onto its passenger side.
Ashley Peters, 42, of Ellsworth sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. Turcotte says Peters was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and had fallen asleep behind the wheel.
One lane of the highway was shut down until about 6 p.m.
