LEWISTON, Maine — A suspect from a shooting incident was found dead after an hours-long search Saturday night into Sunday in Lewiston.
The Lewiston Police Department says they received several calls at around 11:30 p.m. reporting a male with a gun in the area of Essex Street. Witnesses reported the male was firing the gun, although it’s not clear at what.
When officers arrived, the suspect fired his gun at them and then fled into the woods. Officers did not return fire.
Several departments were called and established a perimeter in the area.
The suspect was located in the woods at around 3:30 a.m., dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The deceased suspect is being identified as Nathan Savage, 45-years-old of Auburn. A handgun was recovered with his body.
Savage’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
