Lewiston school leaders are honoring one of the victims of last year’s mass shooting who worked public education for more than half a century.
Lewiston Public Schools renamed its business office after Lucy Violette Monday.
The superintendent said she worked for more than 50 years in the Lewiston School Department.
Violette’s daughter-in-law was among those who spoke Monday.
“Many people ask our family what they can do for us, and honestly, over what has transpired over the last 10 months, there isn’t anything that can heal our pain and our loss,” daughter-in-law Casandra Violette said. “What you can do is honor Lucy. Honor her in the things you do day-to-day.”
Violette started her work in Lewiston’s schools in 1971 and refused to retire.
The new office, named the Lucielle M. Violette Business Office, also includes a bench dedicated to Violette in her name.
