PEMBROKE — On Sunday, Aug. 25 from 1-4 p.m. (to coincide with the Washington County Fair), Greenhorns will hold a film screening and library open house in Pembroke.
Established in 2008 to champion young organic farmers, Greenhorns publishes the New Farmers Almanac and has been based in Pembroke since 2017. There, we have been slowly restoring an 1896 Odd Fellows Lodge that now houses our agrarian library. Thanks to volunteer librarian Lysa Intrator, the library is open every Sunday from 1-4 p.m. The building, named Reversing Hall in honor of Reversing Falls, also inspired the Maine Civic Halls Initiative which seeks to support civic hall stewardship throughout Maine. In partnership with Maine Preservation and Friends of Liberty Hall, Greenhorns completed the first phase of the project in July 2023, releasing a report on all civic halls in Hancock and Washington counties. Interested in learning more about the work of Greenhorns and the Maine Civic Halls Initiative? Visit our booth at the Washington County Fair, and then stop by Reversing Hall this Sunday from 1-4 p.m. At the hall, Greenhorns will host artist-in-residence Brian Dewan for the premiere of his hand-made, animated film strip about the history and preservation of civic halls. Dewan has previously collaborated with Greenhorns to release GRANGE FUTURE, a record of Grange songs from the 1880s. We hope you can join us for the premiere, tours, networking with other hall stewards, and refreshments. The hall is located at 4 Leighton Point Road, Pembroke, ME. |
