A Pennsylvania woman died Thursday night when she collided with another vehicle in Woolwich.
Margaret J. Daniel, 24, of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, was reportedly passing several vehicles in a 2013 Buick Encore on the northbound side of U.S. Route 1, near the intersection with Shaw Road, about 9:08 p.m. when she collided head-on with a southbound 2013 Chrysler 300 driven by 28-year-old Colby Brown of Old Orchard Beach, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel died at the scene from “extensive injuries,” the sheriff’s office said Friday morning.
Brown was pinned inside his vehicle and first responders had to extricate him. He was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was being treated for multiple broken bones. The sheriff’s office said that Brown’s injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.
While the crash remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said speed appears to be a factor.
The crash closed Route 1 for about 4 hours. It reopened at 1 a.m. Friday.
