As we approach the November election, there are basic, core needs that the grassroots American public have.
Affordable housing, rent costs too much. Groceries cost too much. Seems like everything we need costs more than it used to. Usually we can make ends meet, but only by saving less or sometimes not saving at all. So, inflation needs to be brought under control.
We are basically robbing our future to keep up with inflation today. It shouldn’t be this hard.
Government should be doing something to help. But instead, you’ve got members of Congress trying to give themselves a raise or trying to give the 1 percent a tax cut. I don’t think serving your state should leave you poor or that the grassroots shouldn’t benefit from a tax cut. Congresspeople earn lots of money, way more than most Mainers. So, let’s concentrate on lifting up the masses.
That’s why I was happy to see U.S. Rep. Jared Golden acknowledged that Congress earns plenty, and that he helped block Congress from giving itself a raise, as well as fighting against rewarding the 1 percent. This shows that he has the grassroots Mainer in his thoughts. This shows a lot of character, and proves to me that Jared hasn’t lost touch with normal people. That’s what we need in D.C.
