A man allegedly tried to rob the post office on Forest Avenue in Portland.
Jacobie Jefferson, 32, has been charged with robbery, criminal threatening, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, indecent conduct and violating conditions of release, according to Brad Nadeau, a spokesperson for the Portland Police Department.
Jefferson allegedly entered the post office about 6:32 p.m. Monday, approached a clerk and demanded the clerk open the register.
The clerk refused to open the register, and Jefferson quickly fled while making additional threats, Nadeau said Tuesday morning.
Police quickly located Jefferson in Deering Oaks Park, where he was arrested.
He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
