Bangor police on Thursday arrested a man five days after he allegedly assaulted a person at a homeless camp in Bangor.
Christopher Campbell, 22, of Enfield, was arrested at Camp Hope on Cleveland Avenue in Bangor at about 10:30 p.m.
Camp Hope is an encampment near Hope House homeless shelter. Enfield, where Campbell is from, is 35 miles north of Bangor.
Bangor police said they received a report on Aug. 24 that Campbell assaulted a person at the camp the previous day with a weapon fracturing multiple bones in the victim’s face.
Campbell was found Thursday in a tent at the site, according to police. He was brought to Penobscot County Jail and charged with aggravated assault, Class B, unlawful possession of schedule drugs, Class E, and probation violation.
Bangor Sgt. Jason McAmbley declined to say what sort of weapon Campbell used in the assault, saying police are not releasing that information at this point.
