A 52-year-old Knox County man has been identified as the person who died at a Surry work site on Thursday.
Two workers had been at the Nexamp site on Surry Road about 10:59 a.m. when one of them was reported as being electrocuted, according to Surry Fire Chief Bryan McLellan.
According to the Maine State Police, who are investigating the death, it appears at this time that Edwin Kendall Jones of Washington died at the scene due to a medical event.
His body was transported to the Maine medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the manner and cause of his death, according to Maine Department of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Nexamp is a Boston-based solar energy company.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that there was a fatality today at our Surry Solar site,” company spokesperson Keith Hevenor said Thursday when contacted about the incident. “At this time, the exact cause is still under investigation, and we are working closely with authorities to determine what happened. Safety is our top priority at Nexamp, and we adhere to the most stringent safety protocols for both our team members and contractors.”
Hevenor added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life.”
