FORT KENT — The University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Blake Gallery will feature the American POP Artist Michael Albert through the month of September.

Albert has been creating art since his college days at New York University, where he studied business. His art has evolved from doodles with colored pencils, magic markers, pen and ink, to serious wax oil drawings, to the cubist mosaic cereal box collages he has become known for.

Albert is honored to be the featured artist here at UMFK now through the end of the month. He appreciates the opportunity to share his work with the folks at University of Maine in Fort Kent.

Included in the exhibit is a selection of the artist’s original artworks created and published over the past 35 years.

For the past two decades Albert has been showcasing his work in a variety of traditional and non-traditional venues including museums, galleries, libraries, art and community centers, cafes, restaurants and stores.

In the past several years he has been creating large-scale “Epic” collage works on various themes including: historical, biblical, literary, musical, lyrical, botanical, logo montages, color studies, mathematical and geographical.

Artist Albert has developed a traveling art enrichment program called the “Modern Pop Art Experience” where he talks about his art and life. He also hosts “Hands-On Collage” workshops for students and individuals of all ages that are held at schools, libraries, museums, festivals, community centers and hospitals.

Albert first visited the UMFK campus last summer for an artist talk and workshop. He is happy to have the opportunity to display his ART with this special Retrospective Exhibition of his Modern Pop Art.

Albert uses his art in every way he can to share it with others and to show his love of art and learning, which he hopes inspires others and keeps him going on his artistic journey.

To date, Albert has brought his modern pop art program to more than 1,000 venues (mostly libraries, schools and museums) in 48 of the United States, as well as several times in Europe and Canada. Google him for more information.

Albert was born and raised on Long Island, he has been living in White Plains for more than 20 years.

He will be offering a workshop in early October and the date will be announced at a later time. At that time, participants will have the chance to meet Albert; create their own collages using the same materials he does to create his serious works; and receive a free signed copy of one of his prints.

The exhibit may be viewed during UMFK’s Blake Library hours. For more information on the exhibit or library hours, please contact Gallery Curator Sofia Birden at [email protected].

For more information or view the artist’s website at www.michaelalbert.com or contact at 917-841-3486.
