The Chocolate Drop Candy Shop in downtown Belfast will be closing down at the end of the month, its owners announced on Facebook late Wednesday.
Co-owners David Crabiel and David Brassbridge said that, while business is going well, they have to put in a lot of effort to keep the candy shop and soda fountain going since 2009.
“While there are several reasons we are closing, lack of business is not one of them,” they said. “The truth is running a busy candy store for 15 years takes a ton of time and effort. We look forward to the next chapter in our lives.”
Many expressed their disappointment about the loss, citing fond memories they have about the business.
All equipment and fixtures in the store will be put up for sale. Inquiries about purchasing them can be directed to the owners.
Crabiel and Brassbridge also encouraged past and present customers to collect pictures on the wall documenting the store’s history over the years.
The owners don’t have any immediate future plans that they announced.
“Thank you Belfast,” they said in their Facebook post. “We hope you continue to have a Cherry Coke kind of day!”
