Bangor elementary students will paint a mural on the outside of their school building this fall.
The 12-by-24-foot mural will depict a pollinator garden on an exterior wall of the Abraham Lincoln School, facing Chapin Park. The mural was commissioned by nonprofit Bangor Beautiful.
Students at the school, which serves preschool through third grade, created drawings of parts of a pollinator garden in the spring, including bees, ladybugs, black-eyed Susans and a fox. Local artist Peter Walls took those pieces and turned it into a mural scene.
The design will be outlined on the wall and students will paint it in late September, Bangor Beautiful said.
A fruit orchard and pollinator garden will be planted at the school as well this fall, part of Bangor Beautiful’s collaboration with teachers and school administration.
