A Winterport man won’t be prosecuted for the courtroom attack on the man convicted of killing his sister.
District Attorney Maeghan Maloney told the Waterville Morning Sentinel that she decided against prosecuting 35-year-old Clifford Warren for his “extremely emotional response” because he didn’t harm Jason Servil.
Servil was arrested on July 16, 2022, after police discovered the body of 20-year-old Alice Abbott at a Canaan Road home in Skowhegan. She had been stabbed 99 times, the Sentinel reported.
He was sentenced to 45 years in prison for Abbott’s murder on April 12, 2024. It was after the judge handed down the sentence when Warren rushed toward Servil and jumped over a barrier in the Skowhegan courtroom.
Law enforcement used a stun gun to subdue Servil before removing him from the courtroom.
Servil’s attorney, Jeremy Pratt, called Maloney’s decision “extraordinarily shameful,” telling the Sentinel that there “should be consequences” for such behavior in court and warning that “it will continue to happen.”
Servil is serving his sentence at the Maine State Prison in Warren. He won’t be eligible for release until May 12, 2061, at the earliest, according to the Maine Department of Corrections.
