BELFAST – Local arts nonprofit Belfast Flying Shoes hosted two successful community dances this year on the Armistice Footbridge in Belfast. The June and September dances bookended the waterfront community’s busy summer season, attracting musicians in an All Comers Band, bemused spectators, and enthusiastic dancers of all ages. The music floated over the water and the joy was contagious.
Belfast Flying Shoes Director Chrissy Fowler cited the collaborative spirit of the City of Belfast, including Parks & Recreation Department Director Pam Salokangas, “We’re grateful that the leadership at City Hall is so clearly committed to supporting community-building arts programming like these dances. Folks are already asking about next year, and we look forward to continuing the partnership.”
Founded in 2005, the mission of Belfast Flying Shoes is to build community and cultivate well-being through the joy of traditional music and dance for people of all backgrounds and identities in Midcoast Maine. For more information about the nonprofit and its programs, visit belfastflyingshoes.org.
