In recommending that Jan Dodge be reelected, I’m reminded of Tip O’Neill’s declaration that all politics is local. Dodge is one of those local politicians whose work keeps our politics vital and functioning in the interest of all her constituents.
Dodge’s record is a testament to the best of mainstream Democratic ideals, including ironclad support for public education — and Dodge is a former teacher — the environment, public safety, infrastructure funding, reproductive rights, public health and standing up to partisan extremists who would tell us what we shall be allowed to read and teach.
On a personal level, my dealings with her on issues concerning to me have always had her prompt and close attention. Some have been very personal and minor, compared with issues that the public at large must confront, but no matter. Dodge was there for me whenever I called her, at Augusta or at her home in Belfast.
Dodge is a principled and diligent public servant, and I’m proud to call her my friend, as well as my voice in the State House, and to enthusiastically commend her to the voters for reelection.
