Recently many of us were surprised to see that Vice President Kamala Harris is apparently now in favor of stopping the flow of “migrants” as she calls them, through the U.S. Southern border with Mexico. What’s not surprising is that Maine 1st Congressional District candidate Ron Russell of Kennebunkport remains consistent in his position in support of legal immigration to the United States. Russell believes legal immigration is tied to our positive economic growth as a state and nation.
He supports controlled immigration, based on our requirement for additional citizens and the funded resources to support them, as the responsible way to grow our country. Russell feels strongly that our nation should seek properly vetted immigrants, who are upstanding candidates for U.S. citizenship, in a controlled manner that enables us to assimilate these new neighbors into our culture, our economy, our language and our way of life.
It is refreshing to hear this positive approach to border control. Yes, as some have only recently acknowledged, uncontrolled, unresourced immigration (or migration if that’s the current term in vogue) is not best for our country’s growth or security. Nor is it “fair” to those who have
immigrated legally or to those of us who already live in the U.S. and are expected to bear the cost of unplanned-for and illegal immigration to our state.
This November, vote for Ron Russell, the 1st Congressional District candidate who recognizes the difference between legal and illegal immigration and will work to support effective border security and sustainable, resourced immigration for Maine.
