Just over 10,000 Down East homes lost power on a clear Saturday afternoon, with Versant Power saying it was still determining the cause of the outages.
The outages were heavily concentrated in the eastern part of Washington County, hitting virtually all residents from Eastport to the Machias area. Outages extended down peninsulas to Lubec, Cutler and Roque Bluffs and affected towns as far west as Jonesport. At 3 p.m., it was 74 degrees and sunny in Machias.
Versant sent a notice of the outages at 2:45 p.m. and did not initially provide estimated restoration times for the towns. By 4 p.m., power had been restored to roughly 3,000 customers.
