An inmate at the Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston died on Monday.
Craig Pelkey, 56, of Holden died at around 11:20 a.m., according to Maine Department of Corrections spokesperson Randall Liberty. His death was attended by medical staff.
The Maine medical examiner’s office, as well as the Office of the Maine Attorney General, have been notified of Pelkey’s death, as is protocol when an inmate dies.
Pelkey was serving seven years of concurrent sentences for drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession, as well as two charges of aggravated assault. Pelkey was last arrested in June 2021 during a raid that turned up $67,000 worth of fentanyl at a Bangor apartment building.
The earliest Pelkey would have been released was December of 2028.
