A student riding an e-bike was hit by a vehicle outside a Brunswick school on Wednesday morning.
The student was riding the e-bike on a trail behind Crimmins Field about 7 a.m., according to Brunswick police Chief Scott Stewart.
The child was going through the crosswalk on Columbia Avenue outside Brunswick Jr. High School, where the vehicle hit them, Stewart said.
The driver stopped and rendered aid until first responders arrived.
The child, who suffered minor injuries, was released to a parent at the scene, Stewart said.
Stewart said the crosswalk is marked with signs warning pedestrians to stop, as well as pedestrian-activated yellow flashing lights, which don’t appear to have been used before the crash.
Speed isn’t considered a factor in the crash.
Stewart said that police are working with school officials to ensure student safety while riding bicycles and to improve visibility at the road crossing.
