SOUTH PORTLAND — Southern Maine Community College announced the grand opening of its Veterans Resource Center, the first of its kind among Maine’s community colleges. The new center, located in the Bay Building on SMCC’s South Portland campus, supports the unique needs of veteran students.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Wednesday, Sept. 11. The event marked a significant milestone in SMCC’s commitment to providing comprehensive services and resources to those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
“We are incredibly pleased to open the SMCC Veterans Resource Center, the first of its kind at a Maine community college,” said Amy Lainoff, director of Veteran and Military Student Services at SMCC. “This center reflects our deep commitment to the veteran community and our dedication to ensuring we are there to support their academic and personal success.”
The Veterans Resource Center will be a hub for veterans to gather, build community relationships and receive support. It will offer veterans a welcoming environment where they can access the resources they need to thrive in their educational journeys.
