A former Stockton Springs police officer will spend 10 years behind bars for sexually assaulting a girl in 2021.
Christopher Hast, 35, of Searsport was convicted of gross sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of sexually explicit material, according to the Midcoast Villager.
He was sentenced Thursday.
Hast began sexually assaulting the girl in the spring of 2021, with the assaults becoming more frequent over the summer until the week before his arrest.
The abuse came to light after the girl reported it to a school counselor, and the Maine State Police began investigating Hast on Oct. 29, 2021.
He was arrested on Nov. 1, 2021.
Hast worked with the Stockton Springs Police Department from 2015 until his arrest. He also worked part time for the Thomaston Police Department between 2015 and 2018, and served as an officer at the Knox County Courthouse, the Midcoast Villager reported.
Hast is being held at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham. He won’t be eligible for release until Sept. 19, 2032, at the earliest, according to the Maine Department of Corrections.
