What a very special treat (sarcasm) as I was able to listen to Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in the same day with their plans if elected president. I cannot understand how any voter under the age of 40 or any voter with children or grandchildren could check the box beside either of these two candidate’s names. They are both promising tax cuts and spending at the same time our national debt is climbing to a level most people cannot even comprehend.
Our United States dollar is in serious trouble and very quickly losing its value here and abroad and both candidates apparently want to attack the problem by borrowing more dollars, the main reason we are in this mess. The country needs change badly, unfortunately the only change that can fix us is voters demanding a balanced federal budget.
As a country we have become very comfortable with living a lifestyle way beyond what we are willing to pay for and passing that legacy and bill to our grandchildren. Forcing senators and representatives to raise revenue to cover the spending they feel is necessary is how our republic should work. That would also put the term limit initiative to bed as politicians seeking re-election would have a record voters would look at and be able to judge.
I believe that American voters have turned their backs to the next generation, not caring if they will have the same opportunities as my generation and the one before it. We already have a fair federal income tax that is based on income, why promise no taxes on Social Security, tips, or overtime pay while letting debt go unchecked? I think that spending and tax cuts buy votes, and spending cuts and tax increases lead to unemployed senators and representatives. Our two party system and all forms of media are letting this go unchallenged.
