I have watched the career of Mike Tipping, my state senator for District 8, for many years. He’s running for reelection to a second term. Mike has a proven “people-orientated” legislative record with his first term that will continue with a second term.
As a retiree, I appreciate his efforts to protect seniors like me from utility shutoffs during extreme cold or heat, to increased tax breaks by increasing the income tax pension deduction, and his rejection of proposed cuts to the Medicare Savings Program. These are measurable fiscal impacts for Maine’s aging population, helping us seniors on a fixed income to meet rising costs.
Mike’s work as chair of the Labor and Housing Committee led to the Paid Family and Medical Leave Program, so that Mainers can be with their young kids or aging parents, who are struggling with illnesses or injuries. It is now easier, as well, for Maine workers to exercise their right to form a union. Health care costs were also addressed by Mike, by clamping down on shady medical debt collection practices, prohibiting litigation against struggling Mainers and increasing price transparency.
I could go on and on, but I urge District 8 voters to examine Mike’s complete legislative record, and then send him back to Augusta to continue his work on behalf of Maine’s retirees like me and all of Maine’s citizens.
