A man died in a tractor trailer truck crash in West Forks on Friday afternoon.
The tractor trailer crash was reported to the West Forks Fire and Rescue at around 3 p.m. Friday, according to a post made to the department’s Facebook page. The rescue team located the crash approximately ¾ of a mile north of 15 Mile Stream Outfitters, on Route 201.
When officials arrived, they found that the tractor trailer driver had become trapped in the cabin when the vehicle went off a steep embankment. Rescuers were able to extricate the driver.
The driver, who has not been identified at this time, died at the scene.
The truck and its load of logs was left as-is at the scene on Friday afternoon, and cleanup is planned on Saturday morning. Anyone traveling that section of Route 201 should expect delays and should drive with caution.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protections was called to the scene, but it is unclear whether there was any hazard posed after the truck crash.
Further details were not immediately available.
