Mainers formed a roadblock in a small town to stop a man fleeing from police.
The suspect was fleeing from police in Milton, New Hampshire, who used a spike mat to deflate his vehicle’s tires, according to York County Sheriff William King.
The suspect continued to drive at a slow speed onto Foxes Ridge Road across the state border in Acton, where community members left their homes about 9:15 p.m. Monday to form a roadblock and stop him, King said Tuesday morning.
One of those Mainers, 55-year-old Robert Sprague of Acton, was armed with a shotgun and fired at the suspect’s vehicle, hitting its trunk lid, according to King.
Sprague was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. He was taken to the York County Jail in Alfred, where he was released after posting $2,000 bail.
He will appear at the York County Judicial Center at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 26.
King said the suspect was eventually arrested by Milton police and charged with eluding an officer. King didn’t identify him because he is considered a victim in the Maine case.
