Two people have been arrested after police found fentanyl in their vehicle on Tuesday in Bangor.
Sandy Alexander Mateo-Ruiz, 29, of the Dominican Republic and Jasmine Donovan, 31, of Monticello have been charged with aggravated drug trafficking, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Maine drug agents learned that Mateo-Ruiz and Donovan were traveling to Maine from Massachusetts to allegedly sell drugs in northern Penobscot County.
Drug agents and Bangor police stopped the pair on Union Street on Tuesday, and during a subsequent search of their vehicle, police seized just over half a pound of fentanyl and $560 in suspected drug proceeds, according to the MDEA.
Police estimate the fentanyl was worth more than $40,000.
Mateo-Ruiz and Donovan were taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where Mateo-Ruiz was being held on $100,000 bail and Donovan on $50,000 bail.
