A luxury condo that was once a ballroom is for sale in downtown Kennebunk.
The one-bedroom, two-bathroom unit was converted into a condo in the early 2000s, but still has the high, ornate tin ceilings, polished hardwood dance floors and long, 12-foot windows that evoke its life as a grand ballroom from the early 20th century. Located on Kennebunk’s Main Street, it’s listed for $675,000.
“It’s a really neat and unique property,” Jeffrey Davis, the property’s listing agent, said.
Other features include a gourmet kitchen, walk-in shower and bedroom that’s sealed off in a circular, glass-walled room within the main ballroom area. There’s a second bed on a lofted balcony space. The condo is located on the third floor but has an elevator up to the unit.
The condo has only been on the market for a week, but already Davis, a real estate agent with Town & Shore Real Estate, said it’s seen a ton of interest.
The southern Maine real estate market isn’t as animated as it was a few years ago — when Davis said he’d get 20 offers on a home in this area — but properties here are still selling fairly quickly.
Davis has already shown the condo to a slate of interested buyers and doesn’t expect it will remain on the market for long. Some potential buyers are from out of state, interested in the condo as a second home where they’d live on weekends or while on vacation. Others are looking at it as a year-round residence, he said.
“It’s got a huge ‘wow’ factor,” Davis said. “It’s pretty unusual.”
