Featuring co-lead counsel in Held v. Montana Phil Gregory and Wolastoqey visual artist and writer Mihku Paul
PORTLAND — Maine Conservation Voters and Maine Conservation Alliance will host the annual Evening for the Environment at the University of New England Innovation Hall in Portland on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 6-8 p.m. The Evening for the Environment is a gathering to celebrate the environmental accomplishments of the year, and bring together local leaders, legislators, nonprofit staff, business owners, community advocates, and many more who are passionate about protecting the environment, acting on the climate crisis, and creating thriving communities.
The featured speaker at the event will be Phil Gregory. Gregory serves as co-counsel in several youth-led constitutional climate cases, including Juliana v. United States (this federal case is told in the documentary Youth V Gov, currently streaming on Netflix). Phil will elevate the words of youth plaintiffs to tell the story of Held v. Montana, a landmark victory for climate justice in the first constitutional climate case to go to trial in the United States.
Mihku Paul will be this year’s featured artist. Paul is a Wolostoqey visual artist and writer who leverages her creative work for causes that protect The Mother (Earth). She will lift up “two-eyed seeing,” a guiding principle for cross-cultural collaboration.
