The smoke from the fire at the Eagle Point Energy Center in Orrington has affected some local high school athletic activities.
The Class D North football game between John Bapst of Bangor and Winslow scheduled for Friday night at Cameron Stadium in Bangor has been moved to Monday and it will now be played at Pottle Field in Hermon.
It is John Bapst’s Homecoming game.
John Bapst athletic director Danny O’Connell said they were still working on establishing a time for the game.
Also, the varsity and jayvee field hockey games between Camden Hills and Hampden Academy in Hampden slated for Friday were also postponed.
No makeup date has been set yet.
The status of Saturday’s boys soccer game between Hampden Academy and visiting Oxford Hills of South Paris is undetermined.
Oxford Hills athletic director Kevin Ryan said a decision is going to be made early Saturday morning based on the air quality.
There had been air quality alerts earlier this week but they were discontinued on Friday according to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
However, the Maine DEP also warned that intermittent flare-ups could happen so there could be sporadic hours with higher values.
The fire at the trash facility started Tuesday night and is expected to burn for several days.
