Around 40,000 people were without power on Saturday morning, according to Central Maine Power’s outages map.
A call to CMP was not immediately returned to confirm the source of the outages, or when power would be restored. A dispatcher with the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office noted that the region was experiencing high winds on Saturday.
As of around 8:55 a.m., the majority of the outages were in Cumberland, Kennebec and Franklin counties. According to CMP’s outage map, approximately 8,697 Cumberland County households were without power on Saturday morning, as well as around 5,155 residences in Kennebec County and around 4,352 in Franklin County.
Outage numbers continue to fluctuate. As of 8:58 a.m., 40,124 residences in CMP’s coverage area were left without power.
At around 9 a.m., Versant Power was reporting 5,127 outages in its service area. According to the power company, the source of the outages remain under investigation, and the restoration timeline is not available at this time.
According to the National Weather Service office in Gray, many communities in the southern region of the state could experience wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour on Saturday.
