Donald Trump won the 2020 election. Setting aside all the other lies that Donald Trump has been telling before and since Jan. 6, 2021, that is the platform Donald Trump is running on in 2024.
I am astonished that on the eve of the 2024 election, Trump’s “Big Lie” along with his apparent contempt for the Constitution and disregard for our Democratic principles and the rule of law, that broad swaths of the American electorate find this man eligible to serve as president of the United States.
In ” The Emperor’s New Clothes,” a literary folktale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, a vain emperor gets exposed before his subjects when a boy, watching the parade, cries out that the emperor has no clothes. Others were afraid to admit the obvious for fear of being stupid or incompetent.
Liz Cheney was not afraid of feeling stupid or incompetent when she called out Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. On Nov. 5 you can join Liz Cheney and countless other Republicans, independents and the unenrolled to put country before party in this election cycle. This is our chance to speak truth to lies. This is our chance to vote for respectful discourse. This is our chance to allow the courts to hold Donald Trump to account for his crimes. This is our chance to not feel “stupid or incompetent.”
This would-be emperor has no clothes. Vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. We can’t afford to go back.
