Patrick Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes Sr., allegedly pleaded with police not to charge him with driving while intoxicated before the 2024 Super Bowl.
“My son is getting ready to play in the f—ing Super Bowl,” Pat Sr., 53, said in police footage obtained by TMZ on Friday, October 18. “I am not drunk, I promise you. I’ve had some drinks, but he can’t have this right now. This can’t happen.”
Pat Sr. then offered to “have somebody come get” him and drive him home, adding, “This is not the right time.”
“I promise you, I don’t say a lot of stuff about nothing. I’ve had a couple of drinks, yes I have, but I am not drunk,” Pat Sr. asserted in the video clip. “Dude, seriously? We don’t have stars from around here. I’m very, very knowledgeable and capable. Dude, I can get somebody to drive me, but we can’t have this.”

Us Weekly confirmed on February 4 that Pat Sr. was arrested the day prior in Tyler, Texas, on charges pertaining to a DWI. He was released within hours after posting $10,000 bond. The incident was Pat Sr.’s sixth arrest and took place days before his eldest son competed in the Super Bowl.
Patrick, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, briefly addressed his father’s arrest ahead of the championship game.
“He’s doing good. I don’t really want to get into it too much but he’s doing good for whatever the situation is,” the NFL star, 29, said during a February 5 press conference. “It’s a family matter so I will just keep it to the family. That’s all I really have to say at this point.”

In TMZ’s newly obtained footage, Pat Sr. said he believed that the incident would pull his son’s focus from the game.
“Pat, what the f— is wrong with you?” he asked himself in the police footage before addressing the arresting officer. “It’s really the worst thing that could happen right now and I understand you have a job, too. … I can’t believe this. Right before the f—ing Super Bowl. Do you know how f—ed up this is gonna be? You don’t know my son.”
According to Pat Sr., an arrest would impact Patrick.
“I’ll let you do what you gotta do, but this is crazy,” Pat Sr. added. “My son’s getting ready to play in the f—ing Super Bowl and I’m doing interviews, five or six a day. Now this s— is gonna be on the news and that’s gonna f— with him and f— him up and he probably won’t win the Super Bowl, but that’s fine. If that’s what you wanna do.”
The Chiefs ultimately won Super Bowl LVIII after beating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime. Pat Sr. attended alongside younger son Jackson and ex-wife Randi Mahomes. Patrick’s wife, Brittany Mahomes, also went to the game alongside children Sterling and Bronze. (She is now pregnant with baby No. 3.)
