Team Hancock is thrilled to welcome Nick Christ as the new general manager of the Brunswick location. Christ has close to 30 years of experience in the industry, previously working at Home Depot. He started out at 19 years old working in the parking lot retrieving carts and has done most every job there. Christ eventually earned a promotion to store manager in Rockland, a role he held from 2006–16 before transferring to South Portland as store manager.
The Brunswick GM role became available due to an internal transfer when Rob Riley — former Brunswick GM — moved into the vacant Saco GM position. In addition to overseeing the entire site’s culture, people, safety, sales, and operations, Christ will be helping manage the generational rebuild of the Brunswick site. This reinvestment project will feature a new 30,000-plus square foot building to house the hardware store, drive-thru indoor lumberyard, kitchen design showroom, office spaces — plus, a 50 percent expansion to the millwork warehouse building, 20,000 square feet of undercover outdoor lumber storage, improved site work including resurfacing, along with expanded parking. Construction will commence by the end of the year, and the location will remain open for business during the renovations and rebuild. We caught up with Christ to hear more about his decision to join Team Hancock and he shared the following,
“To make such a significant career move, the opportunity had to be seriously compelling — and I did not take this change lightly. When the new role presented itself, I reached out to a few former colleagues now in managerial roles at Hancock Lumber. Hearing directly from people I trust and respect reinforced what I was reading on the company’s website — they had nothing but incredible stories to share. Then, I met with several members of the Hancock Lumber team during the hiring process. At every step of the way, it was clear the company’s mission and values aligned with my own. General managers have the freedom to manage their site and are trusted with that — plus, there is a spirit of collaboration and transparency across the entire organization.”
Christ lives in Damariscotta with his wife and two children and he’s looking forward to a shorter commute and more time in his hometown community. Please join us in welcoming Nick Christ to Team Hancock!
