On Nov. 5, I will support Stephen J. Hemenway for our new District 39 State House representative. Why? Let me count the ways. LD 258, our 2023-2025 state budget that passed, included the repeal of the Property Tax Stabilization Program for senior citizens and they eliminated a scheduled increase in the homestead exemption. LD 2102 repealed the municipal property tax cap. These repeals alone have led to higher property taxes.
LD 1619, potentially allows for full-term abortions of healthy babies to healthy mothers, LD 1494 (2019), requires that 80 percent of our electricity come from renewable sources like solar or windmill farms by 2030 and sets a goal of 100 percent by 2050, which I believe is escalating our electricity bills. LD 1578, which I believe gives away our Electoral College votes down the road to whoever wins the national popular vote.
The list goes on and on. Enough is enough. A vote for Stephen J. Hemingway is a vote for a better Maine.
