Police arrested a Bangor man on Sunday after an alleged domestic violence incident that ended with a burning tent and exploding propane canisters.
Just before midnight on Saturday, police were called to the area of Union Street and Sunset Avenue, where the victim told police that Paul O’Neal, 38, “had become assaultive and then set fire to the victim’s tent, tossing propane canisters into the fire,” Bangor police said in a news release.
O’Neal then fled the scene. The canisters exploded and the sound was heard more than a mile away, police said.
Police found O’Neal on Sunday shortly before noon, arrested him and brought him to Penobscot County Jail where he was charged with one count each of domestic violence assault and arson.
The victim reported minor injuries and declined medical treatment, police said.
