Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, is adding author to her list of titles.
The fashion designer and businesswoman took to Instagram on Tuesday, October 29, to announce her upcoming memoir, Matriarch, which will be released on April 22, 2025. Knowles, 70, also shared a photo of the cover, which features a painted portrait of herself inside an ornate gold frame.
“I have always been a storyteller, and it’s something I learned from my mother. When I had a family of my own, I believed that my daughters needed to know where they came from in order to know where they were going,” Knowles wrote in the caption. “I’m now ready to share my story with all of you, so that we can all celebrate these themes of strength, motherhood, Black pride, and identity.”
Knowles chose the title Matriarch because she feels inspired by “the wisdom that women pass on to each other, generation to generation — and the inner wisdom we long to uncover in ourselves.”
Tina Knowles Reveals Daughter Beyonce Was ‘Bullied a Bit’ While Growing Up
The Louisiana native, who shares daughters Beyoncé’, 43, and Solange Knowles with ex-husband Matthew Knowles, noted that she is “still learning valuable lessons” to this day, “revelations” that she wishes she’d uncovered earlier in life.
“I want to share this knowledge now, one to one with the reader, as we laugh and sometimes cry together through all the stages of our lives,” she wrote.
Beyoncé voiced her support for her mom’s new book with an Instagram post of her own.
“Mama, I couldn’t be prouder. My love for you goes beyond what I can say. You put your heart into this book. I’m happy for you to share some of the stories that shaped you into who you are. To know you is to love you,” she wrote before quipping, “But please don’t spill too much Mama Tea.”
Tina Knowles Calls Daughters Beyonce and Solange’s Kids ‘Super Creative’
The memoir’s publisher, Random House, described the book as the story of “a determined, self-possessed, self-aware and wise woman who raised and inspired some of the great artists of our time.”
In addition to being Beyoncé’ and Solange’s mother, Tina has long referred to Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé’s former Destiny’s Child bandmate, as her third daughter. Rowland, 43, moved in with the Knowles family when she was 11.
In a May 2015 essay she penned for Time, Tina also referred to her niece Angie Beyince as one of her daughters.
“I gave birth to two of you, but I have four incredible daughters,” she wrote. “You are all strong, beautiful, intelligent and smart business women. You are so much more than that. You are all kind, generous and you treat people well. You are all amazing mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends. All of you have total self-respect.”
Tina Knowles Praises Kelly Rowland’s Grace After Cannes Security Incident
Tina was named one of Glamour’s Women of the Year earlier this month, and Beyoncé and Rowland both attended the awards ceremony to support her.
“I’ve been so blessed in my life to do many things,” Knowles said while speaking at the event. “I’ve had many careers, but I’ve always said that the best job that I’ve ever had is being a mother. I’ve had the privilege of raising and helping to raise four daughters. Two that were born to me and two that were a gift to me from God.”
